Equipment & Recommendations
The Basics: Cleats, mouthpiece, protective cup
This is the same as you’d use for football or other sports, and is available at any sporting goods store or Walmart or a handful of other places - nothing unique for lacrosse
Lacrosse Stick
Lacrosse sticks come in two basic varieties - “Short Sticks” and “Long Sticks”
“Short Sticks” are used by midfields & attack, and for all positions at the younger ages - if you dont know what kind of stick you need, go with a short stick
“Long Sticks” (aka D Poles, Long Poles, Defensive Sticks) are 6’ sticks used by defensemen - unless your player knows they are going to play defense, and they are in 5th grade or older, you should probably start with a short stick
There are a wide range of brands and styles of lacrosse sticks and you generally get what you pay for
If you are just getting started and your kid is in 3rd or 4th grade or younger, you can find a stick that will be just fine to get started in the $40-50 range
At the older grades, and as your player gets more experienced, you will definitely notice the difference with a higher quality stick, in the $75-90 range - a nice stick should last you a few seasons and be plenty sufficient to play in to high school
Some recommended brands (these are just a few, there are plenty of others)
Full Protective Gear: Helmet, Shoulder Pads, Gloves, Elbow pads (RENTAL GEAR)
This is available as a rental package - most players start off renting equipment, although you can purchase this gear if you would like
Storm Lacrosse in American Fork provides rental equipment for our area
For the spring season, renting full protective gear is ~$95, which can be arranged directly with Storm or thru IMLax Registration
For other seasons (travel teams, winter skills, etc) you can arrange for rentals directly with Storm, cost depending on how long you are renting
The Basics: Cleats, mouthpiece
This is the same as you’d use for any other sport, and is available at any sporting goods store or Walmart or a handful of other places - nothing unique for lacrosse
Lacrosse Stick
No difference in stick lengths by positions like there is for boys
Girls sticks are different than boys sticks, and they are not interchangeable
There is still a wide range of costs and options for girls lacrosse sticks
Some recommended brands (these are just a few, there are a ton of great options)
Goggles
Because of the differences in the girls and the boys games, girls do not wear full protective equipment - they typically just wear Lacrosse Goggles
These are NOT available to rent, but only cost ~$50 - see below for a list of local or online retailers
LACROSSE SPECIFIC RETAILERS
May be more expensive but can be more helpful and have more high end options
Storm Lacrosse - American Fork
Tribal West Lacrosse - Sandy
SPORTING GOOD STORES (w good selection of lacrosse gear)
Tend to have a wider selection of less expensive entry level options
